Cruise Counselor
New to cruising? Here are frequently asked questions and answers that will make you feel like a pro:

Q. What is a cruise?
A. A floating resort hotel that carries you to ports of call. Included in price is room (cabin), all meals on board, live shipboard entertainment, informational lectures about ports of call, movies (in theater or video). Beauty parlor/barber, spa for massages, sauna, steamroom, fitness center, casino, duty-free shops, swimming pool and some ships have children's playroom and counsellors. Most ships have cabins for physically challenged passengers. Port charges are usually included, but government taxes are extra.

Q. Do I need a passport?
A. Yes. However, certain destinations require a visa also and you would need to ask about it if you would need one.

Q. How do I book a cruise?
A. Just sign in our website, select your cruise by date, itinerary, length of cruise or destination, and follow our instructions.

Q. How do I know I am paying the right price?
A. We offer the latest promotional prices and best value for your money, no matter which ship you choose. Also check our list of complimentary offers.

Q. Do I need to purchase travel insurance?
A. Yes, indeed. It is something that should be considered to cover trip cancellation or interruption due to illness or accident, as shiplines impose penalties within their cancellation periods (see individual shipline's cancellation policy). Emergency medical/dental, medical evacuation transportation, baggage coverage for loss and delay can be purchased. Travel insurance is available and recommended.

Q. How do I pay for purchases on board and in foreign countries?
A. It is a good idea to carry traveller's checks with you. They can be cashed in as needed at the Purser's Office. Most ships have a 'cashless' system whereby you register your credit card when boarding, then you can charge your onboard purchases such as gift shop items, drinks, shore excursions, beauty parlor, spa services to your shipboard account. A statement will be provided you at the end of the cruise with the amount which has been charged to that credit card.

Q. Do I need to change my money into foreign currency?
A. All Caribbean and Canadian ports of call accept U.S.Dollars. For all other destinations, we suggest buying a small amount of currency in advance for each country you visit, and then you can purchase more money from the Purser on board or in the country as you need it. All exchanges cost a small fee, which varies. We find the best rate in foreign countries is to use your major credit card to purchase meals, gifts, etc.

Q. Can I stay longer in some cities?
A. Pre-cruise and post-cruise hotel and sightseeing packages are available from most cruise lines in their departure and arrival cities. This must be arranged in advance.

Q. How do I get to the ship from my home town?
A. Most shiplines offer air-sea programs, whereby you can purchase airfare (or receive free airfare) to the departure port. This usually includes roundtrip transportation and baggage handling between the airport and the hotel.

Q. What if I need a wheelchair?
A. Most shiplines have wheelchair assistance on and off the ships. However, you must bring your own wheelchair if you need it for daily use.
